Default How to: Remove low port intake y brace.

Simple.

I did this not too long ago changing the starter in my wifes P11, and fought it for several hours trying to get it to drop out. There is no other way to do this without removing a lot of stuff from your car.

Tools:

1 - high speed die grinder
2 - safety glasses
3 - hours of pent up rage
4 - middle finger

Remove all the vacuum line distributor block thinger, and wiring harness attached to it. Wedge it so it wont move, cut it in half, pull it out.

I dub thee...BEST HOW-TO EVER.

Holy shit. I TOTALLY wish you did this two months ago when I needed a new starter. I absolutely know what you mean.

I had that same bracket sitting on my shelf for years, it recently went in the trash with a kick ass 10 foot skyhook. Nothing but can!

Thanks for the writeup Jer. :)

looking for some help. i just bought a 99 g20 from my brother in law. while poking around I noticed the y bracket had already been torched away and removed. He mentioned he had Pep Boys replace the starter a while ago. After that he said it started a mousy squirrly squeak from right behind the glove box. any else get this same squeak after cutting this bracket out?

I doubt removing that bracket would do that.

Do you notice it more when your using the cold air? Could be a fan, or something in your ducts. That's what a squeak anywhere near the dash usually means to me.

Wow. The Y-brace was the first thing I ever removed from my engine (because I thought it was entirely unneccesary and only added meaningless weight)... and it didn't require a die grinder.

Maybe your hands are just too big?

Well, he does have a P11 and things are pretty crunched in there. I always remove the bracing! IT cleans up the bay nicely.
